Albert: They're fairly regular - they go every day except Sunday at ten to twelve.
Francesc: OK: And how much is te trip? We've got student cards.
Albert: Let's see. Well, in that case it's $10 per person. The full price is $20.
Arnau: Aha...
Pau: That's fine.
Francesc: We'll go on Monday, then. Do we need to book it?
Albert: I'll book it for you if you like. Can I take your names?

Francesc: That should be OK. Have you got the receipt?
Arnau: Yes, here you are.

Albert: It's a great poster anti-drugs.
Solà:I can't really decide, but I suppose the one on the right has got a clearer message. Do you agree?
Arnau: Well, yes and no. It's clearer, but isn't very effective.
Albert: Why that?
Francesc: Well, I reckon you should be positive. For me, the one on the right is trying to be scary.

Facebook: Mark Zuckerberf

Personal fortune: 14.7$ billion
University: Dropped out from Harvard

As a young student at Harvard, Zuckerberg was approached by Cameron and Tyle WInlevoss who wanted him to write the sofware for a new social website called Harvard Connection.
Since Facebook, wich Zuckerberg subsequently created, was a very similar concept, the Winklevoss brothers have always maintained he stole the idea. This year, Facebook was floated on stock exchange. It was valued at $108 billion, briefly making Zuckerberg the younguest man in Forbes list of the world's 40 richest people.
The flotation became a fiasco as the company's valuation fell by $29billion as investors realized the price has been exaggerated.

Amazon: Jeff Bezos

Personal fortune: $18.4 billion
University: Princeton

As a wall Street banker, Keff Bezos became fascinated by the growth of internet as a commercial platform. He quit his job to create Amazon.com, which could sell books cheaper than traditional shops because it did not have to pay local taxes. After forcing rivals such as Borders into bankruptcy, Amazon has enormously diversified its variety of products and is now the largest online shop in the world.

Apple: Steve JObs

Personal fortune: $8.3 billion
University: Dropped out of Reed College, Oregon

Steve Jobs co-fundated the Apple Computer Company in his adoptive parents garage in 1976. Although Apples were always seen as easier to use than other computers, PCs were much cheaper and by 1985 he was fired from his own company. Apple continued to decline, but Jobs did well thanks to his possession of Pixar Studios, the makers of Toy Story.
In 1996, Jobs returned to Apple, beginning its remarkable recovery. Guided by his obsession with good design, the company produced a series of hit consumer products from 2000 onwards. By the time of his death, it had become the most valuable company in the world.
The company is now led by Tim Cook, and design remains under the control of Sir Jonathan Ive, the British designer responsible for the iMac, the iPod, the iPhone and the iPad.

Google: Larry Page and Sergey Brin

Personal fortunes: 18.7$ billion each
University: Stanford

While students at Stanford, Page and Brin began a research project to develop a better way of searching for information on the web. The early version of Google was housed on a server in Stanford that was partly built using Lego.
Google became a private company in 1998, and was floated on the stock exchange in 2004.
Its areas of research and development now go far beyond web-searching. It has been testing driverless cars for several years, has been working on robots, and is developing an elevator to go into space. Other ideas are being devoloped at its top secret research centre, Google X... but not even Google insiders know what they are.

UK Olympic London 2012

London 2012: Which sports won and lost at GB's home Olympics?

The nation's athletes thrilled the country by winning 65 medals, including 29 golds. This was the best total since 1908 and way ahead of the minimum medal aim of 48.
But away from the overall picture, each sport was also given a target and this is vital for future funding allocations from UK Sport.
While two thirds of Great Britain's sporting teams hit the mark, nine sports failed to reach the standard set and will have to wait to see if their budgets are cut.

Beijing versus London
  • At Beijing 2008, GB won 47 medals - 19 of them gold - across 11 sports.
  • At London 2012, GB won 65 medals - 29 of them gold - across 16 sports.
  • Diving, hockey, judo, shooting, tennis and triathlon all failed to win medals in Beijing but reached the podium at London 2012.

My summer holidays!

 Writing:

Hello, my name is Albert Quintanas and I'm 14 years old and today I'm talking about my summer holidays.
First I'm going to explain the days that I stayed in Palamós.
Then I'm going to explain the days that I stayed in PortAventura.
Finally I'm going to explain the days that I stayed in Banyoles.

When I finished school I prepared the things to go to Palamós whit my family; my father, mother and my brother. There I met parents friends.
Now I'm going to talk about the routine of the days in Palamós.
Every day I got up at ten o'clock and I had breakfast in terrace. We could see the fantastic views of the sea. Later I went to the beach and there we sunbathed or go snorkeling... But I don't like the sea, I prefer my swimming pool in Banyoles. At two o'clock I had lunch and after that I went to the apartament to relax. In the evenings I spent time walking around Palamós with my family.

After Palamós I spent three days in PortAventura. I went there with my friend Bryan and his family. I stayed in Costa Caribe Hotel. We bought a express gold card and we could go to all the roller coasters on the first line and we didn't have to wait in the queue. I had much fun and I went to the tallest rollercosters. One example is: Shambhala.

When I came back from PortAventura. I stayed in Banyoles and I met friends and we spent time together around the lake playing basketball, football, going to the cinema, etc... Also, at the nights, we went to summer party's. One example it was the last party in Olot, FDT.

Thankyou for your attention and I hope you enjoyed!

Heal the World!

Video with lyrics Heal the World:

Lyrics: There's a place in your heart
And I know that it is love
And this place could be much
Brighter than tomorrow.
And if you really try
You'll find there's no need to cry
In this place you'll feel
There's no hurt or sorrow.
There are ways to get there
If you care enough for the living
Make a little space, make a better place.

Heal the world
Make it a better place
For you and for me and the entire human race
There are people dying
If you care enough for the living
Make a better place for
You and for me.

If you want to know why
There's a love that cannot lie
Love is strong
It only cares for joyful giving.
If we try we shall see
In this bliss we cannot feel
Fear or dread
We stop existing and start living
Then it feels that always
Love's enough for us growing
Make a better world, make a better world.

Chorus:Heal the world
Make it a better place
For you and for me and the entire human race.
There are people dying
If you care enough for the living
Make a better place for
You and for me.

Bridge:And the dream we would conceived in
Will reveal a joyful face
And the world we once believed in
Will shine again in grace
Then why do we keep strangling life
Wound this earth, crucify it's soul
Though it's plain to see, this world is heavenly
Be God's glow.

We could fly so high
Let our spirits never die
In my heart I feel
You are all my brothers
Create a world with no fear
Together we'll cry happy tears
See the nations turn
Their swords into plowshares
We could really get there
If you cared enough for the living
Make a little space to make a better place.

Chorus:Heal the world
Make it a better place
For you and for me and the entire human race
There are people dying
If you care enough for the living
Make a better place for
You and for me.

Refrain (2x)There are people dying if you care enough for the living
Make a better place for you and for me.
There are people dying if you care enough for the living
Make a better place for you and for me.

You and for me / Make a better place x3
You and for me / Heal the world we live in
You and for me / Save it for our children
You and for me / Heal the world we live in
You and for me / Save it for our children

Tom Sawyer

Tom Sawyer's best friends include Joe Harper and Huckleberry Finn. In The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, Tom's infatuation with classmate Rebecca "Becky" Thatcher is apparent. He lives with his half brother Sid, his cousin Mary, and his stern Aunt Polly in the (fictional) town of St. Petersburg, Missouri. In addition, he has another aunt, Sally Phelps, who lives considerably farther down the Mississippi River, in the town of Pikesville. Tom is the son of Aunt Polly's dead sister.

In Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, Tom is only a minor character, and is used as a foil for Huck, particularly in the later chapters of the novel after Huck makes his way to the Phelps plantation. Tom's immaturity, imagination, and obsession with stories put Huck's planned rescue of the runaway slave Jim in great jeopardy — and ultimately make it totally unnecessary, since he knows that Jim's owner has died and freed him in her will. Throughout the novel, Huck's intellectual and emotional development is a central theme, and by re-introducing a character from the beginning (Tom), Mark Twain is able to highlight this evolution in Huck's character.

Tom Swayer: His Aunt Polly has punished him by making him by making him whitewash a fence, but he's going to make a few changes to this punishment...

Aunt Polly:She's desperate because Tom is such a naughty boy, and she finds herself forced to punish him against her will.

Toms friend's: They fall into Tom's trap

Research ship finds the world's oceans are 'plasticized'

(CNN) -- A marine expedition of environmentalists has confirmed the bad news it feared -- the "Great Pacific Garbage Patch" extends even further than previously known.
Organized by two non-profit groups -- the Algalita Marine Research Foundation and the 5 Gyres Institute -- the expedition is sailing from the Marshall Islands to Japan through a "synthetic soup" of plastic in the North Pacific Ocean on a 72-feet yacht called the Sea Dragon, provided by Pangaea Exploration.
The area is part of one of the ocean's five tropical gyres -- regions where bodies of water converge, with currents delivering high concentrations of plastic debris. The Sea Dragon is visiting the previously unexplored western half of the North Pacific gyre -- situated below the 35th parallel, and home to a massive expanse of plastic particles known as the "Great Pacific Garbage Patch" -- to look for plastic pollution and study its effect on marine life.
Leading the expedition is Marcus Eriksen, a former U.S. marine and Ph.D student from University of Southern California.
Our nets come up with a handful of plastic fragments at a time, in every trawl we've done for the last thousand miles.
Marcus Eriksen, expedition lead
er
"We've been finding lots of micro plastics, all the size of a grain of rice or a small marble," Eriksen said via satellite phone. "We drag our nets and come up with a small handful, like confetti -- 10, 20, 30 fragments at a time. That's how it's been, every trawl we've done for the last thousand miles."
Eriksen, who has sailed through all five gyres, said this confirmed for him "that the world's oceans are 'plasticized.' Everywhere you go in the ocean, you're going to find this plastic waste."
Besides documenting the existence of plastic pollution, the expedition intends to study how long it takes for communities of barnacles, crabs and molluscs to establish, whether the plastic can serve as a raft for species to cross continents, and the prevalence of chemical pollutants.
On a second leg from Tokyo to Hawaii departing May 30, the team expect to encounter material dislodged by the Japanese tsunami.
"We'll be looking for debris that's sub-surface: overturned boats, refrigerators, things that wind is not affecting," Eriksen said. "We'll get an idea of how much is out there, what's going on and what it's carrying with it, in terms of toxins."
Scripps Institute graduate Miriam Goldstein was chief scientist on a similar expedition to the Great Pacific Garbage Patch in 2009. According to her research, there has been a 100-fold increase in plastic garbage in the last 40 years, most of it broken down into tiny crumbs to form a concentrated soup.
The particles are so small and profuse that they can't be dredged out. "You need a net with very fine mesh and then you're catching baby fish, baby squid -- everything," Goldstein says. "For every gram of plastic you're taking out, you probably take out more or less the equivalent of sea life."
We don't necessarily want an ocean stuffed with barnacles
Miriam Goldstein, scientist
Scientists are worried that the marine organisms that adapt to the plastic could displace existing species. Goldstein said this was a major concern, as organisms that grow on hard surfaces tend to monopolize already scarce food, to the detriment of other species.
"Things that can grow on the plastic are kind of weedy and low diversity -- a parallel of the things that grow on the sides of docks," she says. "We don't necessarily want an ocean stuffed with barnacles."
Sea-level rise: Impacts and mitigation measures around the world
Eriksen says the mood on the Sea Dragon has been upbeat, with crew members playing a ukulele and doing yoga, "but the sobering reality is that we're trawling through a synthetic soup."
Also on board is Valerie Lecoeur, founder of a company that makes eco-friendly baby and children's products, including biodegradable beach toys made from corn, and Michael Brown from Packaging 2.0, a packaging consultancy.
Eriksen says they have been discussing the concept of "extended producer responsibility".
"As the manufacturer of any good in the world today, you really can't make your product without a plan for its entire use, because you could eventually have 7 billion customers buy your product," he said.
"If one little button has no plan, the world now has a mountain of buttons to deal with. There is no room for waste, as a concept or a place -- there's just no place to put it anymore. That's the reality we need to face. We've got this plastic everywhere."

Recommend and express preferences

Albert: Hey Arnau, have you seen any good films recently?
Arnau: Yer, two or three. Have you?
Albert: No. What about this one? Is it any good?
Arnau: I'd only recommend that if you like really bad science fiction.
Albert: No, I don't fancy that.
Arnau: Here you're. You might prefer this.
Albert: What's that? Titanic? No I'm not a big fan about drama or romantic films. I'd prefer a comedy.
Arnau: A comedy...er...OK, well, try this one. It's got a really funny plot. I think you'll like it.
Albert: Ok, I'll trust you. Thanks, Arnau.
Arnau: No problem. Byebye(:

Talk about plans and arrangaments

Arnau: Hi, Mr Albert. Have you got a minute?
Albert: Hello Arnau. What can I do for you?
Arnau: I'm doing a twenty-kilometre run for charity next week, and I'm looking for sponsors.
Albert: That's very good Arnau. What's it for?
Arnau: It's for a children's charity.
Albert: And when are you running?
Arnau: I'm running next Sunday. I'm hoping to raise about 150 $. Will you sponsor me?
Albert: Yes,OK. It sounds like a good cause. I hope you finish it!
Arnau: I'm going to try! Some friends are going to do it too.
Albert: Good luck Arnau.
Arnau: Thanks.

Express doubt and persuade

Albert: Hi Arnau, what on earth is that?
Arnau: Oh, I got it this afternoon. What do you think? Do you like it?
Albert: Mmm... Yes but I'm not convinced.
Arnau: Don't you think it's interesting?
Albert: Er, sort of, but I'm not sure about the body of the person.
Arnau: Oh, come on! It isn't that bad. It's really colourful and beautiful. It's good to have a new picture in the house.
Albert: I suppose so.
Arnau: Don't worry, it'll be fine. It'll grow on you.
Albert: Ok. We'll see.

Real Steel

I'd like to recommend a film which i watched recently, called Acero Puro/ Real Steel.
It's a 2011 American science fiction and action film starring Hugh Jackman and co-produced and directed by Shawn Levy.

I love the characters of the film. The mai characters are:
 -Hugh Jackman as Charlie Kenton
-Dakota Goyo as Max Kenton
-Evangeline Lilly as Bailey Tallet
-Kevin Durand as Ricky
-Hope Davis as Debra
-James Rebhorn as Marvin
-Anthony Mackies as Finn
-Olga Fonda as Farra Lemkova
-Karl Yune as Tak Mashido

The things I liked most about the film were the robots boxers. Some of the scenes are memorable because they're very strong, but the style and plot are very complex.

The story starts in 2020, human boxers have been replaced by robot boxers. Charlie Kenton (Hugh Jackman) is a former boxer who owns a robot, Ambush, competing in unsanctioned matches and exhibitions whit it. At a rural fair, Ambush is destroyed by Back Thunder, a bull belonging to prometer Ricky (Kevin Durand). Having made a bet that Ambush would win, Charlie now owes Ricki $20,000 , which he doesn't pay before leaving.

All in all, I love this film. It's easy to watch and it's still got a strong message.
